
Hard as it seems to believe, we turned around the other day and noticed the calendar said it was September – to us the most melancholy time of year. Before long, the beaches will slow down, the summer offerings at Brookhaven Amphitheater and other outdoor area venues will come to a close, and it will be time for fleece pullovers and warm socks. However, there’s never an off-season at our area’s recording studios and rehearsal halls, and Studio News brings you an inside look at who is doing what in music in our region.
Sabella Studios in Roslyn Heights has enjoyed a string of successes during the past several months, including the issuing of an exceptionally fine new Jason Waters demo entitled Jason Waters … The Experience. Jim Sabella, who in the recent past has also worked with such stars as Kino, Derek Trucks, and Richie Cannata on various recording projects, produced the five-song demo. Here’s a look at some recent releases: The new Rock Stars Of America album, entitled Rock Star Headquarters, was mixed, produced, and arranged by the group and Jim Bonneford, who in the past has worked with Kool & The Gang, Savage Garden, Jimmy Cliff, Steve Gadd, and other major label artists. Dan Grigsby (Keith Richards, Paula Abdul) assisted with engineering. The CD was mastered by Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound in New York City.
Once again, VuDu Studios has another stellar release under its belt, this time the new Idle Vice EP. The CD was recorded at VuDu in May, engineered by Rich Liegey, and mixed and produced by Liegey and VuDu’s Michael Watts. The album was mastered at the studio as well. A large contingent of artists recently has recorded at The MRE Studios in Merrick, including Nicholas Shatarah (The Nick S. Project), The Chapman Brothers, Anthony DeSantis, Alex Majewski, Lucas Galman, Tom Courtenay, Lori Nevias, Emmerson Edwards, Patty Shea, and ShedStyle. The Edwards project featured a host of top session performers, including Nick Singu on keyboards, Nick Rinaldi on drums, and Matt Trinkwald on upright bass. The breathtaking Kyle Lardner’s new CD, Sail Among The Stars, was also mastered at New York City’s Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi. The album was produced by Alan Scott Plotkin for Little Dizzy Records. Full Force Studio, located in Port Jefferson Station, recently underwent a massive studio renovation, according to Joe Cincotta of the facility. Cincotta is currently on the road touring with Relapse Records’ Suffocation.
