ContractorsForKids.Org is an organization that helps families of children with terminal illnesses. Joplin’s Pearl, a local Janis Joplin tribute featuring entertainer amberRose backed by a full band including a three-piece horn section, will perform in a benefit show for the children’s charity Friends Of Karen on Sunday, September 30 at 7 pm at Theatre Three in Port Jefferson.
Friends Of Karen is a Port Jefferson-based charity that provides financial, emotional, and advocacy support to families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Proceeds from this benefit concert will support the non-profit organization’s Family Support Program, which provides services including transportation to medical treatments, household expenses such as rent or mortgage payments, bereavement support, and other matters.

Hawkins on September 27; former Byrds, Manassas, and Desert Rose member Chris Hillman on September 28; and Vienna Teng on September 29. October will see the venue host such stars as James Cotton, Howard Jones, and New Riders Of The Purple Sage.
In addition, a James Bond film will be shown every Wednesday evening in the Boulton Center’s Fall Movie series, starting September 26 with Goldfinger starring Sean Connery.

A recent video post on the site – there are dozens of videos available to view or share – featured the Sachem High School Varsity Arrowettes raising money for the upcoming school year in novel ways, including a dunk tank. The Subject Is Sex 2, a unique look back at the naughty and bawdy in cinema, will be Thursday, September 19 at 7:30 pm at the member-supported movie house Cinema Arts Centre, located at 423 Park Avenue in Huntington.
Noted film collector and Oddball Films director Stephen Parr will be on hand for this special event, a look at the sights and sounds of seamy sex in cinema (and, obviously, is intended for an adult audience). Scheduled to be part of this evening of erotica are bizarre medical films, peep show loops, nudie films from the 1940s, the best of the New York Erotic Film Festival, something called the “cheap smut give-a-way,” and more films from the 1940s through the 1970s. This event is part of CAC’s “Theater Of The Wild” series.
