Annual Hospice
Fundraiser Features
Motorcycles & Music

On Sunday, August 26, the Batyr brothers – John, Chris, Marcus, and Alex – will host the seventh annual "Hospice Run" fundraiser for the benefit of Hospice Care Network (HCN). The fundraiser was created in memory of their mother, Gloria Batyr, to show gratitude to HCN, who took care of the woman in the final stages of her life.

This year's fundraiser will take place at Cycle-Delics in Bay Shore. The event features a 53-mile motorcycle poker run where riders will compete for a leather motorcycle jacket donated by Renegade Classics. Riders will travel to five designated areas – The Library Café in Farmingdale, Maxwell's in Islip, The Bulldog Grill in Amityville, Post Office Café in Babylon, and Renegades in Deer Park – and choose a playing card from a deck. The participant who ends up with the best poker hand wins. The run will conclude with a barbecue from noon to 5 pm featuring live music by White Hot & Blue.
The event begins at 9:30 am and costs $15 per rider, and $10 for passengers. The barbecue is $10; children under the age of six eat free. The winner of a "grand raffle" will be announced at 3 pm. To participate in this event or for more information, call John Batyr at (631) 595-1447.

'Lost Suburbia':
Scary Long Island

A motion picture produced and written by Long Islanders, Lost Suburbia, will get a special screening on Sunday, August 26 at 1 pm at Bellmore Movie Theater, 222 Pettit Avenue in Bellmore.

The first screening of this new film sold out the largest theater at Cinema Arts Center on July 22. This new horror film is the brainchild of writer/directors Paul Natale, Sean King, Terrence and Elizabeth Smith, and Pete Bune. These indie filmmakers have come together to produce this feature – three years in the making – based on local haunted legends that have plagued their childhood nightmares: The hangings at Sweet Hollow Road, the lady in white ghost, the abandoned Kings Park psychiatric facility, and the Native American tale of Lake Ronkonkoma. Documentary segments that explore the legends' origins and feature interviews with experts on the subjects precede the fictional films.

For more information, call the theater at (516) 783-7200.
