The Mercurial
Rises To
Warped Tour

A Bellmore band has landed one of the top spots on a famous national tour. The Mercurial recently won The Ernie Ball Battle Of the Bands was invited to perform at the local leg of the Vans Warped Tour when it comes to Nassau Coliseum on August 4.

The band, which describes its sound as "rock, experimental, disco house" on its MySpace area, is comprised of Chezz on keyboards and vocals, Dan on guitarist, Lauren on bass, and Anthony on drums. The act currently is in upstate New York recording their first album with famed producer Mike Birnbaum. For more on this hot local act, log on to their MySpace area.

Hughes Offers
Free Music

Area guitarist and pop/rock songwriter Shelly Hughes is offering free downloads of her original music. See her websites at shellyhughes.com and myspace.com/shellyhughes for complete information.

Hughes surfaced on the Long Island music scene at age 19 fresh out of graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. She's already performed at such top New York-area venues as Joe's Pub, Roseland Ballroom, The Cutting Room, and The Living Room. “I spend a lot of time in working bands, playing covers and weddings," said Hughes in her bio, living the usual Long Island music syndrome. "As a guitar player, it helped me get a lot out of my system. That time of my life made me a stronger player and overall a greater musician and performer.”

Still Fighting Foo:
Monkey Wrench

Once again, we fess up: We stole that headline from David Letterman. But we're not the only ones mimicking someone famous: Bellmore's Monkey Wrench has established itself one of the more popular local tribute acts in recent months. The act was recently featured on MTV 2 during a special entitled "24 Hours Of Foo."
The band describes their act as "the first Foo Fighters tribute in America" and covers virtually everything that the longstanding band and even Dave Grohl has recorded. The band performs as a "regular" rock cover band as well.

The band will return to the area for a performance at D.J. Riders Rhythm & Brews in Oceanside on August 11. For more information, log on to foofighterstribute.com.
