It's Senior Idol!

The third annual New York State Senior Idol Competition is now accepting applications. The contest, which will culminate at the Senior Idol Finals on September 30 at the Suffolk Community College Van Nostrand Theater, is open to New York State residents 50 and older. The competition will begin with auditions during the summer. Those wishing to audition may sing, dance or play an instrument.

Last year, more than 140 participants vied for the crown of NYS Senior Idol. The title went to Lee Ann Brill of Lake Ronkonkoma, who has since been invited to perform at various venues across Long Island.

After two rounds of auditions in front of a panel of judges, the list will be narrowed down to the finalists. They will ultimately perform a final time at the Senior Idol Finals on September 30. The winner will receive prizes, a trophy, and a lot of public recognition. Previous winners have won trips, theater tickets and more.

To apply for this years' competition, call (631) 286-0058 extension 216, or write to SeniorIdol@50plusny.com.
